Dark smoke billowed into the sky above the eastern edge of Kyiv. At least one person was admitted to hospital although no deaths were reported immediately, said Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
The Ukrainian air force fired one missile that arrived at around 6 a.m. local time (0300 GMT), according to the military.

Oleksandr Kamyshin, the head of the Ukrainian Railways, confirmed that four missiles had broken into the Darnytsia train repair facility in eastern Kyiv, but said no military equipment was available.
“Their (Russian) goal is the economy and the people,” he said.
Moscow has refused to target civilians in what they call a “special military operation.”
The extensive railway system has served as a vital lifeline as the Russian invasion on February 24 has paralyzed the Ukrainian economy and cut off exports across the Black Sea.
The rockets were the first to attack the capital since the end of April, when the producer of Radio Liberty was attacked by Russia, which attacked the building in which it lived.
“According to preliminary data, (Russia) fired missiles from Tu-95 aircraft from the Caspian Sea,” a statement from the Ukrainian Air Force said.

The mayor of the historic town of Brovary, about 20 km (12 miles) from the center of Kyiv, urged people to stay inside their homes where smoke odors had been reported.
Airstrikes regularly disrupt the lives of people in Kyiv, but no major attacks have been carried out on the city for several weeks after Moscow focused on the invasion to the east and south.
The Darnytskyi district on the left bank of the Dnipro River extends from the edge of Kyiv to the banks of the river, while the Dniprovskyi area in the northern part of the city runs along the river.
Oleksandr Honcharenko, the mayor of Kramatorsk in the eastern Donetsk region, reported overnight attacks on the city that caused extensive but no casualties.
