The hardships that delay the bombing of the Gray Glacier hard fork went off the air on Ethereum on Thursday without shock, according to the network’s core designers, including Tim Beiko from the Ethereum Foundation.

The Sepolia test network will also go through the merger test in the next few days and is the penultimate test network that goes through the test for the official merger.

According to Etherscan, the Gray Glacier hard fork was launched on field 15050000 around 6:54 a.m. ET, June 30th. The hard fork will now delay the difficulty bomb by approx. 700,000 blocks or 100 days, giving development machines until mid-October to complete the long-awaited merger.

Ethereum Foundation Community Manager Tim Beiko immediately went to keep in mind on Twitter later that day that 20 blocks past the fork kept all the checked comments in sync, stating:

“20 blocks past the fork and it looks good: all control nodes except @OpenEthereumOrg, which does not support the fork, are synchronized. No blocks on the old chain so far! “

Ethereum ecosystem developer Nethermind on Twitter also confirmed the success of the hard fork, adding that the bombshell had been postponed.

The difficulty bomb is a device that was set up to gradually pull out Ether (ETH) miners from Proof-of-Work (PoW) mining at Ethereum for the final merger of the network with Proof-of-Stake (PoS) based Beacon Chain.

This is done by increasing the difficulty level of puzzles in the PoW mining mask, which leads to longer blocking times and fewer ETH mining prizes. The hardware would also make the integration significantly more complicated for developers to complete because blockchain can be made gradually.

It was necessary to push the bombshell back as it had slowed down the creation of new blocks so much that it was almost impossible to introduce new updates online.

The hardship bomb has been repulsed many times because the merger has been severely delayed in recent years. The first delay in the Arrow Glacier occurred in December 2021 and pushed the bomb back to mid-2022.

The merger has been delayed so many times that even memes that it has been delayed are ancient.

Sepolia merger

Beiko also shared a post on Twitter from the Ethereum Foundation on June 30, announcing that the Sepolia test network will conduct a dress rehearsal for the merger in the coming days, marking one of three public test networks to do so.

“After many years of working to provide proof of a stake in Ethereum, we have now come a long way to the final testing stage: distribution of test networks!

“Since Ropsten has already switched to proof of stakes and shadow forks continue on a regular basis, Sepolia is now ready for the merger. “After Sepolia, you only need to merge Goerli / Prater before switching to mainnet,” the email added.

The Ethereum Foundation’s website vaguely estimates that the public merger will take place in the fourth quarter of this year, and the latest post also adds that not been set. Any source that claims otherwise is likely to be a scam. Updates will be posted on this blog. ”
