eBay is the latest company to offer NFT in partnership with the web3 platform OneOf. The new “Genesis” NFT collection will include 3D and cartoon versions of athletes (Sports Illustrated covers). eBay claims that a revolution in the collection space has led to its first NFT collaboration.
The first NFT collection contains the hockey legend, Wayne Gretzky. The series includes green, gold, platinum and NFT diamond classes. The NFT films start at $ 10 and feature a 3D image or video of Wayne Gretzky making one of his most famous movements on the ice. They plan to add more athletic collections this year to the eBay community.
“Through our partnership with OneOf, eBay is making the coveted NFT more accessible to a new generation of collectors,” said Dawn Block of eBay (Vice President). It is based on our role to bring valuable items to buyers and sellers.
eBay announced last year that it would adopt NFTs and introduce blockchain-powered collectibles to its platform. eBay has a significant presence in online retail, but it has to compete with dozens of crypto-native NFT marketplaces.
NFT collection eBay
On its website, OneOf said: “As part of OneOf’s role in bringing the next 100 million users to Web3, we are bringing NFT to eBay, one of the largest online marketers of all time.”
The NFT collection will feature 3D and animated images of famous athletes that have appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated throughout its history, even though this is eBay’s first NFT collection.
Wayne Gretsky NFT Museum
The first drop of the year full of bubbles and releases shows Wayne Gretzky, the best hockey player. Wayne’s NFT collection will come in stages, with the most common and easy to get collectibles in the green table and the most valuable in the diamond category.
On the green NFT platform 299 Gretzky-themed 3D rendering or animation, the price will start at $ 10. The rarest diamond class collectibles with only 15 versions. eBay has not announced the price for the NFT diamond series.
In a press release about this museum, Gretzky shares:
“Forty years ago, I was grateful to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated; this was a big moment in my life. I am honored to bring this collection experience to my hockey fans who have been following my career for decades. “
Getting into the mainstream
Since its inception as AuctionWeb at the height of the dot-com bubble of 1990, eBay has introduced millions of online users to the auction world. eBay hopes the new NFT project will bring investment opportunities to the mainstream online stream
By making Wayne Gretzky the face of eBay’s first attempt to sell and manage collections, both eBay and OneOf hope this will be a major step forward in bringing people with great passion into the Web3 space. In a press release, OneOf CEO Lin Dai said: “You do not have to be a cryptographer to buy, sell and collect NFTs.” It shows how important it is to make the NFT space more accessible.
If successful, Dai hopes eBay will merge Oneof and other stakeholders to “bring the transformative Web3 technology to the next 100 million non-cryptographic mass consumers.
But the key to achieving this goal is not to do projects that are easy to sell and market. Both OneOf and eBay know how important it is to eliminate “technical friction” for the end user. So, eBay uses its decades of experience in collectibles, electronics and the online home market to make it easier for people who are not accustomed to encryption to start using it. After releasing its first collection, eBay plans to establish the eBay dome, a unique, trouble-free digital business card market.
OneOf’s role in this project is also essential, as this online marketplace for music and sports memorabilia runs on the Polygon blockchain. OneOf says that trading on its platform uses up to two million times less energy than trading on systems using the Ethereum blockchain. In addition to saving energy and having a much smaller impact on the environment, the Polygon blockchain is so efficient that platforms that work with it, such as OneOf, do not have to charge users for blockchain gas charges.
NFTs approved by other companies
In addition to eBay, Instagram has also announced that it will start testing NFT. They are working with several manufacturers in the United States.
Recently, Spotify has announced that it is now testing a new tool, which allows artists to advertise their NFT collections on their profiles.
